Privacy policy

This policy covers the LaTeX.to website and the latexto command line tool. Both compile LaTeX inside a browser on your own device.

Data collection

There is no login and no personal information is asked for. Your LaTeX source, the files it includes and the PDF or image that comes out are processed in the browser on your device and are not sent to LaTeX.to or to anyone else.

Using the site or the tools makes ordinary web requests: for the site's own files, for blocks of the TeX Live disk images from cdn.latex.to as your document needs them, and for the CheerpX runtime from its vendor's CDN (cxrtnc.leaningtech.com, Leaning Technologies). Like any web request these carry your IP address, user agent, the requested path and the time, which appear in the access logs of the hosts that serve them: Cloudflare for LaTeX.to and its CDN, Leaning Technologies for CheerpX. Cloudflare may also set cookies of its own, add reporting headers and inject scripts of its own for security, performance or traffic statistics, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Data usage

The hosts use those request logs to serve the files, measure traffic and protect against abuse. LaTeX.to has no other use for them, and with no login there is no name or address a log entry could be joined to.

Data retention

What the app remembers (settings, projects created in the app, the last compiled PDF, cached TeX Live blocks, the complete TeX system of about 5.6 GB if you chose "Make available offline") is stored by your browser on your device, and the command line tools keep their cache in their own browser profile (~/.cache/latexto on Linux, ~/Library/Caches/latexto on macOS, %LOCALAPPDATA%\latexto on Windows). It stays until you clear the site's data or delete that folder. "Remove offline copy" in the settings gear deletes the offline copy alone. LaTeX.to runs no server of its own that stores anything about you; the hosts keep their access logs for the periods set in their own policies.
